The Means and the Mission: What is For Us and Why Now
My favorite time of day in the summer doesn’t last long. It’s that golden hour—just before the sun dips below the horizon. For a brief window, the light softens, the colors deepen, and everything seems clearer. It’s not bright like midday or gentle like morning. It’s resolute. Weighty. It marks a transition—light giving way to shadow.
That’s what leadership clarity feels like to me. Not a slow dawn, but a sudden awareness. A golden light that reveals everything just before the darkness presses in.
That’s what happened when I recently listened again to Andy Stanley’s Leadership Podcast episode titled The Complexity of Purpose (June 16, '25). In a moment, things clicked. The questions I had been circling—What is For Us? and Why launch now?—suddenly had answers. Clear, compelling answers.
What Is For Us?
For Us exists to proclaim Jesus Christ. We are a gospel-driven effort to present the heart of God through His Word, so that people might enter a growing relationship with Christ and the church might be strengthened. Everything we produce—daily devotions, preaching, podcasts, writing—is aimed toward that singular end.
We are building a bridge—connecting people to the heart of God through His Word. We proclaim the gospel clearly and consistently, grounded in the person and work of Jesus Christ, revealed in all of Scripture, and brought home to us through union with Christ by the Spirit who makes us alive in Him. We use every available tool to reach people where they are and invite them into life with Christ—real life, full life, life that flows from being united to Him.
In the words of Andy Stanley, purpose is "the reason for which something exists or is accomplished." Purpose is always a means to an end. A shovel digs. A hedge trimmer trims. A ministry proclaims. If it doesn’t serve a higher end, it doesn’t serve at all.
For Us exists only to serve a greater end: the glory of Jesus Christ. It is a means—a microphone, a vessel, a channel—through which He is lifted high and people are drawn to Him.
Why Now?
Because now I understand this. And now I’m ready to live it. As I listened to that episode, the Lord brought clarity in a timely and unexpected way. I’m a relatively new listener to Andy Stanley’s podcast, and while I may not always see every issue as he does, I was deeply helped by this particular conversation. I share that simply to say: God often uses voices outside our usual circle to sharpen our convictions and bring light to our next steps.
Andy Stanley made a convicting observation: most people want to be the end, not the means. We want things to serve us—our platform, our influence, our goals. But you cannot be the end and also be the means. That’s the catch. And that’s what I’ve wrestled with.
But I’m no longer asking, What is my purpose? That question centers me. It keeps me stuck. Instead, I’m asking, Who am I here for? Because purpose begins across the border of “What’s in it for me?”
The answer is clear: I’m here for Jesus. And because of Him, I’m here for you.
That’s why I am preparing to launch For Us. God has been preparing this in my heart for years. I can trace the roots all the way back to my time at Oxford Baptist Church, when a visitor heard me preach and encouraged me to consider radio ministry. That visitor had been instrumental in putting Charles Stanley on the air—a man whose influence shaped my ministry in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Though our church couldn’t afford to pursue the radio opportunity then, God used that interaction to awaken a desire within me. A longing was planted.
Since then, the Lord has continued to whisper the same word: wait. And for nearly a decade, that’s what I’ve done—not out of hesitation, but because He was still forming something in me. Now I see it more clearly: He wasn’t just preparing a platform. He was shaping my posture. I wasn’t ready to be a means to an end, because I wasn’t yet willing to be spent for something beyond myself.
Last year, a line from Oswald Chambers arrested my attention: “Quit worrying about yourself and be spent for others as the slave of Jesus. That is the meaning of being made broken bread and poured-out wine for Him.” That single truth redirected me. It clarified my calling—not to build something for myself, but to offer my life as a means through which Christ could be made known. God, in His providence, continues to lead—faithfully and patiently.
What Makes This Different?
There are thousands of content ministries. So why launch another? Because For Us flows from deep convictions, not market demand.
A prayer partner and friend once told me, "God will take this as far as He intends." That settled something in me. And as Dr. Charles Stanley often said, "Obey God and leave the consequences to Him." That’s our aim—guided not by ambition, but by faithfulness. As Zechariah reminded us: "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit."
This ministry is built on:
Clarity of purpose — to fulfill the Great Commission with focus and conviction
Union with Christ — our foundation and fuel for everything we do
Transformation — awakening hearts, renewing minds, and strengthening lives
Community over commodity — using technology to draw people together, not just to attract views
Gospel-centered faithfulness — proclaiming Jesus Christ, abiding in Him, and bearing fruit that will last
We long to present our lives as an offering to God, abiding in Him and stewarding the gifts He’s entrusted to us. One day, we will stand before Him and give an account. And while we may not be the five-talent servant, by His grace, we will not be the one who buried what was given.
It has been a long journey to this point—a journey I look forward to sharing with you. and we are just getting started! For Us exists to serve this greater purpose: to exalt Jesus, to proclaim His Word, and to strengthen His Church. We believe He is worthy of our full devotion, our best effort, and our boldest witness. Everything we do flows from that center. For Us is simply a way to help others see more of Him. Nothing is more glorious than the glory of Christ!
Appendix: Why Now Is the Time
The reason I’m ready to launch For Us now is because I’m finally ready to be the means.
Not the message. Not the moment.
Just the means.
Stanley’s words still echo in me: "Your glory is too small a thing to live for."
And it is. So is mine.
But the glory of Christ? That’s worth everything.
I know the cost. I know it will require sacrifice, consistency, faith, and obscurity.
But I also know the reward: meaning.
That’s why I’m not asking What is my purpose? anymore.
I’m asking Who am I here for?
And by God’s grace, the answer is clear.
I’m here for Jesus.
And because of Him, I’m here for you.
For Us is not the end. But by God’s grace, it will be a faithful means.
And that is more than enough.
As we begin, would you pray for this ministry? Pray that everything we do would be rooted in Christ, shaped by the Word, empowered by the Spirit, and useful for His Church. You’ll hear more soon, but for now, we covet your prayers as we take these first faithful steps forward.
