Compelled to Pray

On February 16, 2022, I had the incredible honor of being the guest of Senator Bart Williams of the 15th District of Mississippi to open the State Senate in prayer. I got the opportunity to meet Lieutenant Governor Hosemann and several other leaders in our State.

Amid these representatives of the citizens of Mississippi, I was reminded of my humble place representing a greater kingdom. With these thoughts in mind, I prayed.

Shall we pray together? Thank you, Lord, for this day. Let us just pause for a moment before we go to the affairs that attend our needs. May we take just a moment to remember who our help comes from, the Maker of heaven and earth, the reason for us being here and having a moment such as this.

No doubt there are many concerns that attend us today, but we are mindful that you are aware of all of our concerns. So Father, in the quietness of this moment, may we turn our concerns over to you with full confidence because of your demonstration through the blood of Jesus Christ that you care for us.

So Father, my prayer of blessing upon this house is that these members here would pray a prayer that pleases you, the prayer of your servant Solomon, that they would have wisdom to govern us, to direct our hearts towards the way that is right, towards what fears the Lord.

Thank you so much for the privilege of living in Mississippi. Thank you for the privilege of living in America, these United States, and thank you that through Jesus, we are citizens of a greater kingdom - the kingdom purchased through his blood on the cross, made redemption for our sins, and a way for us to inhabit eternity with you, and this forever. May your blessings be upon us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

You can watch the moment here. The prayer begins about the 12 min mark after the roll call. Be sure to pay attention to the 18:30 mark for a recognition of Nathan Taylor, Minister of College and Missions.
